Web hosting is a service that provides individuals, organisations and users with online systems for storing information, images, video, or any content accessible via the Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

Alias's Service Scope

Web Hosting

The scopes of hosting services offered by Alias Hosting vary widely. The most basic is file hosting (or Web page hosting; Alias Hosting's Starter Package), where Web pages and other files can be uploaded via FTP or a Web interface (our Control Panels). The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with little processing.

A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provide database support and application development platforms (e.g. PHP, CGI, Perl and ASP; Alias Hosting's Professional and Hardcore Packages). These facilities allow the customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and CMS.

For E-commerce, SSL is also required (available on Alias Hosting's Professional and Hardcore Packages). Alias Hosting also provide a Web interface (our Control Panels) for managing the Web server and installing scripts as well as other services like e-mail.

Web Domains

On the Web, the domain name is that part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that tells a domain name server using the domain name system (DNS) whether and where to forward a request for a Web page. The domain name is mapped to an IP address (which represents a physical point on the Internet).

More than one domain name can be mapped to the same IP. This allows multiple individuals, businesses, and organisations to have separate Internet identities while sharing the same Internet server.
