It's been a very long time since my last news item and the web has dramatically changed! There's some new techs out there such as Ruby on Rails, we've also go Yahoo publishing its huge JavaScript libraries and Macromedia is no more! So where's the web going now?
Well, I think we need to start focusing on the user. I'm a firm believer of not using technology for technology's sake. It's about the user. One should only ever use technology if it's going to enhance the user's experience, otherwise, there's no point.
Well it depends! What happened to HTML? Flash is an awesome scripting platform. There's now ways of integrating web cams into the sites or apps navigation, but once again, what's the point? If your content needs you to do thing like that, then go for it! Otherwise, don't bother yourself, you'll just irritate the user. And AJAX, yes good too, but it's not a replacement for Flash and vice versa.
I'm sorry if my little rant has put a downer on the web, but I feel that people aren't focusing on the user any more. The end user isn't a 25-40 average build white male sitting in Area 51 in the Nevada desert, it's us. We're all end users, even our family. The real acid test is: if your mum or dad can't use it, it's not right. Think about that.
