Love Thy Web Site! - Part 1
There's no good in leaving your web site to decay over time. You need to give it a little TLC every now and then!
One of the big rules of business is to always promote your company in the best possible way. Now, it's not very good if your shop front is left unclean, messy and decaying is it? So why leave your web site like that?
I know what you're thinking: "My web site isn't that bad... Is it?"; well let's answer that:
- What do you think?
If you think you're site is looking great, good, you've formed an opinion. Now, compare it to your competitors. If their's is better than yours (it's very hard to admit that a competitor is better than you, but it'll teach you a lot of things!) you need to fix some problems! - What do others think?
It's not very hard going about getting your web site reviewed. It can be your colleagues, family, friends or even random people! You can go about doing it by asking people to email you from your web site, posting your site's URL on forums and asking for it to be reviewed, or even emailing a few customers and asking them what they think. The more responses you get, the better! - Ask me!
Now I know what you're thinking, why ask me? Well go for it! I'm here to help! Check out the web site health check I offer.
Now that you've sorted out what your web site looks like to you and others, let's go about fixing it! A web site is a much more complicated package than others would like to state. They can be hugely interactive with games, user dashboards and so on! Or they can be nice and simple, run of the mill style sites. Either way, it's more than just providing content and a little menu:
- Sites need to be accessible!
- They need to be search engine friendly (otherwise, what's the point?)!
- They need to be user friendly!
- They need contain the right information in the right format so you haven't got the user on a wild goose chase!
There are no limits to what a web site can be!
More to come in the second part!
