Content Is King
As a wise man once said: 'content is king'; and with unique content, learn how you can make a name for yourself.
No matter what your web site looks like, how many flash movies it has or Web 2.0 style effects and interactions; it's not going to get anywhere fast without good, well written content. Therefore, how can you differentiate between what's good and what's not? Well I've put together a few pointers:
- What's your game?
Content should be based on what you're focused on. If your company creates fluffy toys then your content should be about fluffy toys and why yours are so great! Don't get side tracked by adding miscellaneous content here and there, focus on what you're about. - Be unique.
A huge mistake most people make is to go to their competitor's site and copy their content! Don't do that! Obviously there are copyright issues, but if you've got the same content as your competitors, what makes you so unique? You should write about yourself! It's how unique you are that's going to get you noticed and this will improve your search engine rankings as well! - Big can be beautiful!
Don't be afraid about writing too much! Sometimes, the more the merrier! However, you need to only write what is necessary; don't always repeat yourself and always run your content by a third party to make sure that it can be read. - Add that extra factor.
Never be afraid of making your content personal. It's always best to offer your customers a personal service so if you're content can mirror this, you're going the right way. Remember not to talk down to your customers and respect and understand their knowledge about your market.
There's one lesson to be learnt here and that's to be unique. People look at ways to differentiate companies and organisations and if you're unique, you're going to stand out from the rest. It's all about that factor of standing out that'll get you noticed.
